Make this refreshing, layered strawberry matcha latte at home. This easy recipe blends sweet strawberry puree with earthy, creamy matcha for a vibrant, chilled beverage perfect for warm weather.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1 teaspoon ceremonial grade matcha powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water (about 175°F)
  • 1 cup milk (oat milk recommended for dairy-free/creamy texture)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the strawberry puree: Combine strawberries, sugar, and 1 teaspoon of water in a small blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. If you prefer a thinner layer, press the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove seeds.
  2. Prepare the matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of hot water. Whisk vigorously in a ‘W’ or ‘M’ pattern until the matcha is fully dissolved and slightly frothy, with no clumps.
  3. Assemble the drink: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Pour the strawberry puree evenly over the ice.
  4. Add the milk: Gently pour the milk over the strawberry layer.
  5. Create the layer: Slowly pour the prepared matcha mixture over the milk. Pouring over the back of a spoon held just above the milk surface helps create the distinct layered effect.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy your antioxidant rich drink.

Notes

  • For a vegan strawberry matcha option, use oat milk or almond milk. Oat milk provides the creamiest texture, similar to the coffee shop version.
  • To make this recipe quicker, you can use thawed frozen strawberries for the puree.
  • Adjust the sugar in the strawberry layer based on the sweetness of your strawberries.
