Make this rich, creamy, and cheesy sausage cream cheese dip using only three main ingredients. It is a simple, hot appetizer perfect for game day, parties, or any gathering. You can prepare this crowd-pleaser on the stovetop or in a slow cooker.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage (hot or mild)
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes and green chilies (Rotel), undrained
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for extra cheesiness)
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. If using the stovetop method, brown the bulk sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Reduce the heat to low. Add the softened cream cheese and the can of diced tomatoes and green chilies (Rotel) to the skillet with the sausage.
  3. Stir constantly until the cream cheese is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy. If using, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chili powder until combined. Heat through.
  4. For the slow cooker method, brown the sausage separately and drain the grease. Add the cooked sausage, cream cheese, and Rotel to the slow cooker.
  5. Cook on low for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until everything is melted and well combined.
  6. Serve the sausage cream cheese dip warm with tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

  • For a thicker dip, drain the liquid from the can of diced tomatoes and green chilies before adding them to the mixture.
  • If you want a spicier dip, use hot sausage and a can of hot Rotel.
  • You can prepare this dip ahead of time and reheat it slowly on the stovetop or in the slow cooker.
