Make this easy homemade lemonade with freshly squeezed lemons and simple syrup for a perfectly balanced, sweet, and tart summer beverage. This recipe is ideal for beating the heat and serving at gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 46 lemons)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water (for simple syrup)
  • 3 cups cold water (for mixing)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup: Combine the sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Do not boil. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool completely.
  2. Squeeze your lemons to yield 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. Strain the juice to remove pulp and seeds.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup, the fresh lemon juice, and 3 cups of cold water.
  4. Stir the mixture well until fully combined. Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding a little more sugar dissolved in a small amount of hot water, or more lemon juice, if needed.
  5. Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  6. Serve the refreshing lemonade over plenty of ice, garnished with fresh lemon slices.

Notes

  • For a crowd, double or triple the recipe easily. This is a great summer party drink base.
  • If you want a pink lemonade recipe variation, add 1/4 cup of cranberry juice or a few drops of red food coloring to the mixture.
  • To make this a peach lemonade, muddle a few fresh peach slices into the bottom of your serving glasses before pouring the lemonade over them.
