Make these crowd-pleasing BBQ Chicken Sliders using soft Hawaiian rolls and juicy shredded chicken. This easy recipe bakes them together with melted Gouda cheese for a savory and saucy appetizer or quick dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12 count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 3 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works well)
  • 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup shredded Gouda cheese
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the shredded chicken and BBQ sauce. Mix until the chicken is fully coated.
  3. Slice the entire package of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping the rolls connected. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Distribute the BBQ chicken mixture evenly over the bottom layer of rolls.
  5. Sprinkle the Gouda cheese evenly over the chicken layer.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir in the poppy seeds if you are using them.
  8. Brush the butter mixture evenly over the top of the slider buns.
  9. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 15 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
  11. Slice the sliders apart carefully and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a tangier flavor, substitute half of the BBQ sauce with honey mustard.
  • If you prefer a different cheese, Monterey Jack or mild cheddar melts well.
  • Serve these sliders with a side of coleslaw or dill pickle chips for added crunch.
